Since our founding in 1993, our mission has remained clear: to serve as a trusted, one-stop resource for competitively priced insurance solutions tailored to the unique needs of physicians, health care professionals, and organizations.

The Evolution of our Agency
What began as Physicians Insurance Agency of Massachusetts (PIAM) has grown into Actuate Insurance — a name that reflects our forward-thinking approach and broader mission to support today’s health care professionals with clarity, confidence, and care.
1993
Founded as a subsidiary of MMS, we launched to provide tailored, competitively priced insurance solutions exclusively for physicians and the broader health care community.
2018
We became Physicians Insurance, simplifying our name to strengthen brand recognition while maintaining dedicated, specialized service to health care professionals and organizations across Massachusetts.
2025
We rebranded as Actuate Insurance, reinforcing our mission to deliver personalized, data-driven insurance solutions for health care professionals, medical practices, and health care-focused organizations.
Meet Our Advisors
Kate Gerheim
Kate brings over 20 years of experience in a wide range of insurance operations and underwriting. She is passionate about building efficient processes, supporting strong engaged teams, and delivering exceptional service to clients and partners.
When she’s not at work, Kate enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their rescue dogs. A self-proclaimed foodie and avid world traveler, she’s always on the lookout for her next great adventure.
Deborah Kelly
A veteran insurance professional, Deb joined the agency in 2001 and has built a reputation of delivering knowledgeable, responsive service; particularly in the complexities of property and casualty coverage. She oversees many aspects of financial reporting and specializes in helping clients with their professional liability needs. Outside of work, Deborah enjoys weekends filled with errands, cooking, and sharing meals with family and friends.
Richard Weston
Rich joined the agency in 2002, bringing a focus on commercial insurance and a commitment to delivering practical solutions for his clients. An industry and military veteran, he began his insurance career in 1988 after serving as a military policeman in the U.S. Army. He later earned a BA in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire and holds the CIC designation. When he’s not working, Rich enjoys exploring restaurants and indulging his passion as a dedicated foodie.
Gordon Bewick
Gordon joined the agency in 2022 after a distinguished career that included founding Boston Insurance Brokerage and 22 years with the Sedgwick Group in London, New York, and Boston, and built one of New England’s leading wholesale brokerages. Today, Gordon brings his deep industry knowledge to Actuate Insurance. He enjoys golf, tennis, and sailing with his family.
Scott Berger
Scott entered the insurance industry in 2002 and joined the agency in 2013. He has handled several of the agency’s largest clients and oversees health insurance programs for medical practices and retired physicians. A graduate of Western New England University, he holds Property & Casualty and Life, Accident and Health licenses. Beyond the office, Scott is also an actor, appearing in commercials, audiobooks, and on stage.
