Our Legacy
Physicians Insurance Agency of Massachusetts, Inc. (PIAM), established in 1990, has continuously operated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for more than three decades. A wholly owned subsidiary of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), PIAM was created by its physician members during a statewide crisis in insurance coverage — to ensure that health care professionals have access to a reliable and independent resource.
From the beginning, our mission has been to serve as a trusted, one-stop source for competitively priced insurance solutions designed specifically for physicians, health care professionals, and health care organizations. Our name and business identity are part of our long-standing corporate history and have been in continuous use since we opened our doors in January 1993.
MMS is the oldest continuously operating medical society in the United States. For over two centuries, MMS has been a steadfast advocate for physicians across the Commonwealth providing leadership, advocacy, and lifelong learning while upholding the highest standards of ethics, equity, and patient care.
Our Agency Today
PIAM continues as our official and legally registered business entity. Although our public-facing (dba) name has evolved, our organization — and our commitments — remain unchanged. Our clients continue to work with the same experienced team, benefit from the same industry expertise, and receive the same high-quality guidance they have relied on for more than 30 years. Our dedication to serving the distinctive needs of health care professionals and organizations continues to be at the heart of everything we do.
